PITA BREAD FILLED WITH MEAT AND MUSHROOMS

Pita bread filled with meat and mushrooms, fluffy and absolutely delicious! You really must try this recipe. It’s very easy to make and I’m sure you’ll love it.
For filling you can use your favorite meat. You can use pork, beef, chicken or turkey.
As regarding the mushrooms, I used fresh mushrooms but you can also use canned or frozen mushrooms.
The dough that I used to prepare pita bread is a bread dough, easy to make, and you won’t have any problems to prepare it.

Ingredients for pita bread filled with meat and mushrooms


For dough:
- 450-500gr flour
- 7gr dried yeast
- 250ml lukewarm water
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
For filling:
- 550gr minced meat
- 250gr mushrooms
- 1 onions
- 1 bunch fresh parsley
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1/3 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

How to make pita bread filled with meat and mushrooms


How to make the dough
Place in a bowl flour and dried yeast. Whisk.
In a separate bowl pour 250ml lukewarm water. Add 3 tablespoons vegetable oil, 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon sugar. Whisk.
Add the flour combined with dried yeast, gradually, stirring with a wooden spoon. When the dough becomes too thick to stir, start kneading. Knead until the whole flour is incorporated. If the dough is too sticky, you can add a little more flour (1-2 tablespoons).
Place the prepared dough into a lightly greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap and let it rise for 45 minutes – 1 hour (or until double in size)
Meanwhile prepare the filling.
How to make the filling
Wash and finely chop the mushrooms. Set aside.
Peel and finely chop the onions. Place it into a skillet with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Place the skillet over medium heat and cook, stirring often, until the onions turns glossy.
Add the minced meat and continue to cook until the meat changes color.
Add the chopped mushrooms and season with salt, pepper, cumin and thyme. Continue to cook until the water left by mushrooms evaporates.
Remove from heat and add chopped parsley. Stir to combine. Allow to cool (until achieves the room temperature).
How to assemble the pita bread filled with meat and mushrooms.
Place the risen dough onto the floured work surface. Divide it into 12 pieces.
Place 1 piece of dough onto the floured work surface. Roll it into a 2mm thick circle. Place in center 2 tablespoons of stuffing. Lift the edges of the dough over the stuffing and press to stick them together.
Turn the dough upside down and roll it again into 1cm thick circle.
Repeat with the remaining dough and stuffing.
How to fry the pita bread filled with meat and mushrooms
Brush a skillet with vegetable oil. Place the skillet over medium-high heat.
Lay the pita bread into the hot skillet and cook until the bread begins to puff up and the bottom has brown spots. Turn the pita bread and cook until the other side has also brown spots.
Repeat with the remaining pita bread.
Serve warm.
